Deadly earthquake strikes Italy

3 Jun
One of the worst quakes to hit northeast Italy in hundreds of years rattled the region around Bologna May 20, killing at least seven people, collapsing factories and sending residents running out into the streets. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has shaken several small towns in northeast Italy.

The quake struck in the farm region known for production of Parmigiano and Grana cheeses. Italy’s farm lobby Coldiretti said that some 200,000 huge, round cheeses were damaged, causing a loss to producers of €50 million ($84.5 milion).
